Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is rooted in one simple idea: every golfer, regardless of skill level, needs to understand how their own swing works. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all fixes. Instead, I focus on helping you understand the cause and effect of what you're doing — so that the improvements you make on the lesson tee actually stick on the course. This approach comes directly from my training under David Leadbetter, one of the greatest instructors the game has ever seen. His methodologies gave me a deep, structured framework for analyzing the golf swing, and I've spent years refining how to translate those principles for everyday golfers. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned low-handicapper, I meet you where you are and build from there. I love growing the game across all generations, and that passion drives everything I do — from in-person sessions to online video lessons that reach golfers wherever they are in the world.
About the coach
⛳️ My Approach to Online Lessons
🎯 Why It Works
Online golf lessons have completely changed the way golfers improve — and I am here to be a part of that journey with you.
Here is what makes online coaching so powerful: you are no longer limited to the instructor down the street. Through Skillest, you get access to me on your schedule — whether you are sending swing videos from your backyard at 10pm or on your lunch break. No booking weeks out, no rushing to a tee box with a stranger watching.
And here is something that surprises most people: online lessons can be better than in-person ones. In a traditional lesson, a coach has limited time and must make snap decisions the moment you walk in. Online, I can slow everything down, study your swing from every angle, and give you a deeply considered, personalized breakdown — not a rushed assessment.
Every lesson, video, and piece of feedback lives in one place so you can revisit it anytime — no more trying to remember what I said 10 minutes after you left. The feedback is yours to keep and reference forever.
Whether you are a beginner building solid fundamentals or a seasoned player trying to break through a plateau, online instruction meets you where you are, fits your life, and gives you a direct line to me.
⛳️ My Coaching Philosophy
🎯 Understand Your Swing, Then Play Golf
I draw a clear and deliberate line between practice and play. On the range, you are a student of your swing. On the course, you are a golfer. I want every student to reach a point of self-sufficiency — understanding the what, the why, and the how of their swing so they can diagnose and fix problems without me standing beside them. Success, in my definition, is the moment a student no longer needs me there. That is not a coaching style that builds dependency. It is one that builds golfers.
🎯 Slow Down to Get There Faster
I fundamentally reject the idea that hitting more balls equals faster improvement. Reps without a ball, mirror work, deliberate rehearsal of movement — these are my tools. I understand that once a ball is in play, the brain reverts to what it knows, undermining the very changes you are trying to build. I like to mention Tiger Woods spending six months on a minor swing change not to discourage students, but to reframe their impatience as unrealistic. Real change is slow, deliberate, and mostly happens away from the range.
🎯 Play to Your Ability, Not Your Ego
From course management to distance obsession to short game neglect, my philosophy is consistent: the score is what matters. I push back on the culture of distance as a vanity metric, champion the short game as the great equalizer, and teach students that staying within themselves is a strategy, not a limitation. A player with a great short game is a match for anyone. Without one, a match for no one.
🎯 The Relationship Is the Coaching
I do not believe in the barrier between coach and student. I lead with trust, friendship, and genuine care for the person before the player. I make golf feel accessible to people who were too intimidated to try it. My students do not just improve — they fall in love with the game. And because of that trust, they are willing to do the hard, unglamorous work of real change instead of chasing quick fixes.
⛳️ My Coaching Style
Warm, direct, and uncompromising on the things that matter.
I build genuine relationships fast, creating an environment where students feel safe to struggle and honest enough to tell me when something is not working. I am patient with the process but not with excuses, and I am willing to have difficult conversations — telling a student there are no shortcuts, turning away someone who just wants to validate what they already believe, refusing to give a bandaid when a student needs surgery. I adapt how I communicate based on whether someone is visual, auditory, or kinesthetic — but I never adapt my standards.
⛳️ What Makes Me Unique
I am one of the few coaches who trains golfers how to not need me.
In an industry that often thrives on dependency — more lessons, more technology, more tips — I am trying to put myself out of a job in the best possible way. I want students who understand their swing, manage their game, and carry the fundamentals with them for life. That is rare.
I treat the fundamentals as sacred when most coaches treat them as optional. My three pillars — grip, setup, pivot — are not a starting point before I get to the “real” coaching. They ARE the real coaching. Everything else is built on top of them or falls apart without them.
I believe that the PERSON learning matters as much as the concepts being learned. Reading personality and learning style before ever looking at a swing, breaking down the intimidation barrier, making someone feel like a friend rather than a client — these are not soft extras. They are what make the technical work stick.
My philosophy is simple enough to pass on. Get the grip, setup, and pivot. Understand your swing. Play golf, not swing. Stay within yourself. Have fun. That is a philosophy a student can carry in their pocket for the rest of their life — and pass on to someone else.
I do not just coach golf. I teach people how to own their game and enjoy it for life.
About Me
With over 25 years of teaching experience and a passion for the game that started on the fairways at Florida State University, I am more than a golf instructor — I am a coach, a mentor, and for many of my students, a lifelong friend.
Based in the Northeast and Las Vegas, I work with golfers of all skill levels, from first timers discovering the game to competitive players chasing their next milestone. As a David Leadbetter Certified Coach, and Golf Digest Certified Instructor, I bring a deep well of knowledge to every lesson — but it is my genuine love for people that truly sets me apart.
For me, teaching isn’t work. It is one of the great joys of my life. My lessons are filled with laughter, real conversation, and an energy that makes students feel supported every step of the way. Many of my students will tell you they look forward to their time with me just as much for the connection as for the coaching.
That connection does not stop when the lesson ends. I stay in regular contact with my students — encouraging them, guiding them, and reminding them that golf is a journey, not a test.
Whether you dream of playing professionally, competing in college, or simply enjoying a round with family and friends, I will be right there with you, pulling for your success every single step of the way.
Because at the end of the day, if it’s not fun — what’s the point?
Let’s take this journey together. 🏌️
