Teaching Philosophy
Golf has been in my blood since I was old enough to hold a club. Growing up around the game under my father — a PGA Professional — I learned early that great golf isn't just about the full swing. It's about scoring, managing the course, and mastering the moments that truly decide a round. That perspective shapes everything I do as a coach. I believe every student deserves instruction that's tailored to where they are right now — their knowledge, their physical ability, their goals. I don't teach one method or one "system." I communicate in the language that works for you, whether you're a 10-year-old picking up a club for the first time or a college player grinding toward a scholarship. My approach covers all facets of the game: full swing fundamentals, wedge play, putting, short game creativity, mental game, and on-course decision-making. My real passion lies in the scoring areas of the game — wedges, putting, and course management — because that's where I've seen the biggest breakthroughs in my students. My own playing experience, from shooting a 66 with 10 birdies to competing at the Division I level, gives me genuine insight into what it takes to perform under pressure. I draw on that experience every single lesson. Over 15 years of personal research, mentorships under PGA Tour and PGA professionals, and working with hundreds of students have refined my coaching philosophy into something simple: listen first, communicate clearly, and make every player better — one round at a time.
About the coach
I'm a golf professional who grew up immersed in the game. My father was a PGA Professional, and from an early age the golf course was my classroom. That foundation launched a competitive career that included a high school regional championship, a tournament-record 66 at Dale Hollow State Park featuring 10 birdies in the first tournament my senior year, and ultimately a Division I scholarship to Morehead State University, where I competed in every tournament as a freshman and posted a competitive low round of 67 in Murray States invitational.
After my playing career, I pursued my calling as a teacher. I served as an Assistant Golf Professional at Big Spring Country Club — one of Louisville's most storied private clubs, a course that hosted the 1952 PGA Championship — before being promoted to the role of dedicated teaching professional at Owl Creek Country Club. In those years, I built a reputation for developing juniors, competitive players, and everyday golfers alike. I've taught hundreds of juniors across the Louisville area and received nominations to coach the Regional PGA Jr. League team for national qualification — recognition I'm especially proud of.
Today, my roster ranges from aspiring tour players and college competitors to high school athletes and beginners who simply love the game. I bring over 15 years of playing experience, mentorships under PGA Tour and PGA professionals, and a deep, research-driven understanding of all areas of the game. My specialties are wedge play, putting, and on-course scoring — the parts of golf where real handicap improvement happens — but I'm equally passionate about full swing instruction, course management, and the mental side of competition.
My goal is always the same: to meet you exactly where you are, communicate in a way that clicks for you, and help you play the best golf of your life.
