Teaching Philosophy

My approach to coaching is rooted in precision, analysis, and genuine curiosity — values that were shaped long before I picked up a golf club professionally. Coming from a background in Aeronautical Engineering, I've always believed that understanding the 'why' behind something is what unlocks real, lasting improvement. I apply that same mindset to every lesson: I want to understand your swing, your goals, and how you learn best before we work on anything. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all instruction. Every golfer is different, and the way you process information and build new habits is just as important as the technical changes we make. I use video analysis and data to give you clear, objective feedback — not guesswork — so you always know exactly what's happening and why. My goal is to make every lesson feel purposeful, so you leave the range with something concrete to work on and the confidence to take it to the course. Whether you're a complete beginner finding your feet or an experienced player looking to break through a performance barrier, I'll build a programme tailored specifically to you. Golf is a wonderfully complex game, and I genuinely love helping people unravel it.

About the coach

I'm a PGA Professional based at Cawder Golf Club, just north of Glasgow — and I came into this career with a slightly unconventional background. Before golf, I achieved a First Class Masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering followed by over 4.5 years in industry, which gave me a deep appreciation for anlaysis, data, and precision problem-solving. Those skills have become the foundation of my coaching.

During my three years on the PGA training programme, I was recognised as Scottish PGA Trainee of the Year and finished 2nd in the PGA Trainee of the Year award across the whole of Great Britain and Ireland — competing against over 150 graduates from across the UK and Ireland. I also received the PGA Business & Management Award, sponsored by Foremost. These achievements reflect not just my commitment to golf instruction, but my drive to be the best coach I can be from day one.

Cawder Golf Club is a stunning parkland venue, and it's the perfect environment to work with golfers of all abilities — from beginners stepping onto the course for the first time to single-figure players chasing their next breakthrough. I use video analysis and modern coaching technology to give students clear, evidence-based feedback and structured plans they can actually act on.

I chose a career in golf coaching because I love the challenge of helping people improve at something they're passionate about. Every student brings a unique puzzle, and there's nothing more rewarding than watching someone take a concept from the lesson tee to the course with confidence. If you're serious about improving your game, I'd love to work with you.

Simple but very effective routine to explain swing path and balance. Im sure with some practice, and a few more lessons, will greatly improve my game and enjoyment.

Master Your Setup

Learn how to setup correctly on a consistent basis just as the Pros do. One of the most consistent mistakes I see is players trying to correct swing mechanics while their setup is hindering their ability to produce the shots they want. Often overlooked by amateurs but never Pros, a great setup provides the foundation to build a consistent and reliable swing. Get the setup wrong and you will compensate during the swing. This course provides a step by step guide on the fundamentals of a great setup, with simple methods you can apply in your practice every day.

3 Putting Drills For Start Line, Distance Control and Holing Out

3 simple putting drills using tees. The most important factors of good putting is start line and distance control. Drills 1 and 2 focus on starting the ball on your intended line and improving distance control for good lag putting. Drill 3 focuses on short putting while adding a pressure element.
