Teaching Philosophy
I believe golf improvement starts with understanding your own game — not forcing a cookie-cutter method on you. My coaching is built around three pillars: managing the club face-to-path relationship, smart course management, and the emotional side of the game that so many coaches overlook. I tailor every lesson to your specific physical strengths and weaknesses, because what works for one player won't always work for another. My style is open-minded, creative, and flexible — I'll tell you exactly what I think about your game, honestly and without sugarcoating it. Functional, repeatable swings beat aesthetically pleasing ones every time. I want to give you the tools to play your best even when you're not hitting it perfectly between lessons. I firmly believe that's where scores are made or broken, and I've helped hundreds of golfers unlock real scoring potential by focusing there. About the coach
I'm a PGA Class A Professional and Head Professional at Des Moines Golf & Country Club, one of the Midwest's premier private clubs, home to two Pete Dye-designed championship courses. I earned my Class A PGA membership in 2020 and have built my coaching reputation on one simple promise: honest, personalised instruction that produces real results on the course.
My golf journey started in Gladbrook, Iowa, where I grew up competing and earned All-State First Team honours in high school. I went on to play collegiate golf at North Iowa Area Community College and Concordia University-St. Paul, and I've continued competing as a professional.
That competitive background means I coach from real experience, not just theory.
Before joining Des Moines Golf & Country Club, I honed my craft at elite facilities including The Country Club at DC Ranch in Arizona and Edinburgh USA Golf Course in Minnesota. Those experiences shaped my understanding of what great golf operations and instruction look like at the highest level.
I specialise in short game coaching and have helped hundreds of golfers transform their scoring through better chipping, pitching, and putting. I also offer a winter online coaching program using video analysis that has helped golfers completely overhaul inconsistent swings into reliable, repeatable motions — available fully remote or as a hybrid with in-person sessions.
