About the coach
Hi, I’m Dan McCracken—a PGA Teaching Professional and National Director of Instruction at Five Iron Golf. I’ve been lucky to work with players of all levels, from total beginners to competitive golfers, and my main goal is to help you get better and enjoy the process. With a background in Professional Golf Management from Penn State and experience at top-tier clubs like Philadelphia Cricket Club and Congressional CC, I bring both tour-level insight and a laid-back, results-driven approach to every lesson.
My coaching philosophy is rooted in building efficient, repeatable swings through a clear understanding of each player’s unique mechanics and tendencies.
One area I’m especially passionate about is helping players gain speed and distance. I’ve gone deep into the training myself—hitting 143.3 mph club head speed and 204.4 mph ball speed—and I enjoy helping others safely add speed in a way that fits their swing and goals.

Dan regularly tries to remind me that I ought to be enjoying myself at golf. I never do because I stink. He has twice suggested a very good game where you cycle through tee box lengths based on scores. I routinely move to shorter tees in competitions and sometimes score worse not better, but I know hes right. I will move up to the forward tees, eventually, but since I only have a year maybe two wheee I can carry the ball far enough to get near most long course greens in reg,, I am trying my darndest To card a few sub 80 rounds before its time to hang up my skates. Dan doesnt make me feel bad for trying. I have a feeling Im not the only super senior on his student roster.

Dan is able to see invisible things these videos dont show, and he takes that ability and leverages it into recommendations I can use even though I am on the other side of the planet! I often criticize this video model, but if anyone has eyes behind his head, or through the lens of my iPhone, hes Dan McCracken .

Dan is a golf professional who probably plays other world golf compared to the rest of us mortals, but somehow he finds it within himself to give to others his gifts or talent and experience. Im always humbled midway through his lessons at how much he gives us students of himself. Just stunning.
