Teaching Philosophy
After spending many years competing at the professional level and studying the best players in the world, I've distilled what truly matters in a golf swing down to its core: a great grip, proper set-up, and good alignment. These three fundamentals are the foundation upon which every player's personal swing plane is built. What I've come to understand is that golf instruction isn't one-size-fits-all — it's like a fingerprint. Every player is built differently, and arm length, leg length, and torso length all play a meaningful role in what swing will work best for you. My job is to analyze your individual body mechanics and give you the specific tools to help you become the best golfer you can be. Once a player truly masters those fundamentals, a consistent and powerful swing follows naturally — and success on the course becomes achievable at any level. Whether you're a beginner picking up a club for the first time or an experienced player chasing a lower handicap, I focus on the real building blocks of ball-striking improvement. I bring the same standards I held myself to as a touring professional to every lesson I give.
About the coach
I'm a former PGA Tour professional with two Tour victories to my name and over a decade of experience competing at the highest levels of the game. My playing career gave me a front-row seat to what separates great ball-strikers from the rest — and now I bring those insights directly to the students I teach through Campfire Golf Tips in Fresno, California.
I turned professional in 1988 and joined the PGA Tour in 1991 after winning three times on the Ben Hogan Tour. My best season came in 1994, when I won the Kmart Greater Greensboro Open wire-to-wire and followed it up with a victory at the Greater Milwaukee Open, finishing 13th on the money list. Over the course of my Tour career, I accumulated 22 top-10 finishes, competed in Major Championships, and earned the kind of course-management and performance experience you simply can't get from a textbook.
Today, I channel all of that competitive knowledge into my instruction. I believe every golfer — regardless of age or skill level — can improve dramatically when they commit to the right fundamentals. My approach is personal, analytical, and results-focused. I guarantee to elevate your game and improve your ball-striking. If you're ready to take your golf seriously, I'm ready to help you get there.
