Teaching Philosophy

Golf can feel complicated — but good coaching shouldn't. My philosophy is simple: keep it clear, keep it enjoyable, and keep it personal. I believe every golfer, regardless of where they're starting from, has the ability to improve — they just need the right guidance, patience, and a relaxed environment to do it in. I build every lesson around your individual goals, not a one-size-fits-all formula. Whether you're picking up a club for the first time, a junior finding your feet on the course, or a mid-to-high handicapper chasing more consistency, my job is to cut through the noise and give you the clear, simple steps that actually make a difference. I want you to leave every lesson feeling motivated, confident, and genuinely excited to keep going. Strong foundations lead to lasting progress — and enjoying the process is just as important as the outcome.

About the coach

I'm Zach Bougen, a PGA Trainee Golf Coach based at Saltford Golf Club, and I'm on a mission to make golf coaching clear, accessible, and genuinely enjoyable. I turned professional in 2024 with one goal in mind: to help people fall in love with this game and get better at it. I'm currently in my second year of a Foundation Degree in Professional Golf Studies at the University of Birmingham, so everything I bring to my lessons is grounded in up-to-date coaching knowledge and a real passion for the craft. My coaching is aimed primarily at beginners, juniors, and mid-to-high handicappers — the golfers who have the most to gain and the most exciting progress ahead of them. At Saltford, I run beginner junior group sessions on Sundays and junior lessons on Mondays, and I take enormous pride in helping young players build both their skills and their love for the game. I also compete in PGA Trainee Series events, which keeps my own game sharp and my understanding of what it takes to improve very much front of mind. I offer both in-person sessions at Saltford and online lessons for those who can't make it to the club in person. No matter your starting point, I'll help you build strong foundations and enjoy every step of the journey.
