Teaching Philosophy
My philosophy is clear: keep it simple, keep it fun. I genuinely believe golf should be an enjoyable experience — for every single player, at every single level. Over more than 30 years as a PGA Professional, I've learned that real, lasting improvement comes from finding the root cause of a problem and working outward from there. It's a domino effect — it's not what you see, but what causes what you see. That principle guides every lesson I give. I'm a firm believer in looking at the whole golfer, not just the swing. That's why I hold qualifications in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and sports psychology alongside my technical coaching credentials. The mental game is just as important as the mechanics, and I love helping players unlock that side of their performance. I also use launch monitor technology and putting analysis tools to bring data and objectivity into the conversation — because great coaching blends feel with fact. I love to learn. I've never stopped studying this game, and I approach every new idea with an open mind. Whether you're a complete beginner stepping onto a course for the first time or an elite player preparing for national competition, I'll meet you where you are and build a programme around your goals. My sessions are energetic, purposeful, and — most importantly — fun. Golf changed my life. I'd love to help it change yours.
About the coach
I'm a PGA Fellow Professional with over 30 years of experience coaching golfers from absolute beginners all the way to Ladies European Tour professionals. My own journey in golf started on the fairways at East Kilbride, and after turning professional in 1989, I played on the Ladies European Tour before moving into coaching — a path I've never looked back on.
During my time at Gleneagles Hotel, I became the first woman in the UK to commentate on golf for Sky TV, and — driven by a personal point to prove — I became the first female in the history of the Scottish PGA to win the Top Trainee (Scottish Assistant of the Year) Award. Those moments shaped who I am as a coach: someone who thrives on breaking barriers and proving what's possible.
As Scotland Ladies National Coach from 2000 to 2006, I presided over the most successful period in Scottish women's golf. My 2004 Scottish Girls team won the Home Internationals by the biggest margin in tournament history, and four players from that squad went on to form half of the 2005 Curtis Cup team.
My 'Total Golf' junior programme, developed during my 20 years as Head Professional at Kirriemuir Golf Club, grew to teach over 150 children per week and became the template for Sports Scotland's national ClubGolf initiative. Today, I coach from Forfar Golf Club — a facility with outstanding practice facilities covering every aspect of the game — and offer both in-person and remote lessons so geography is never a barrier.
I'm a trained NLP Sports Psychologist, Trackman certified, and I use putting analysis and launch monitor technology to ensure my coaching is grounded in both feel and data. My academy has working relationships with Stirling University and US universities. Aspire to inspire before I expire — that's my motto, and I mean every word of it.

Great lesson for our daughter again today. Karyn is always friendly and professional and breaks down her lesson so our daughter understands and can put into the practice what she has learnt.
