Teaching Philosophy

I believe great hitters are developed through a combination of efficient movement, physical ability, a strong offensive approach, and consistent preparation. My philosophy revolves around helping hitters control what they can control. That starts with understanding their swing, developing the ability to adjust to different speeds and locations, and building an offensive approach that allows them to compete consistently. I believe elite offensive baseball is played at second base. Hitters need to develop the ability to drive the baseball, get on base, and create opportunities to reach scoring position. I don't believe in giving every hitter the same drills or trying to make every swing look identical. My job is to identify what each player does well, understand what is limiting their performance, and create an individualized plan that helps them improve.

About the coach

I'm Ryan Kalbfus, an NCAA Division II Assistant Baseball Coach at D'Youville University, specializing in offensive player development, swing analysis, bat speed training, and individualized hitting programs.

Before joining D'Youville, I coached at Grove City College, where I was part of the 2025 PAC Championship coaching staff. During that season, our offense led the conference in several major statistical categories, including batting average, hits, doubles, runs, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. I also helped contribute to a program-record 31-win season and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Prior to coaching, I was a five-year Division II infielder at Gannon University, where I was part of a PSAC West regular-season championship team and two NCAA Atlantic Regional appearances.
