Teaching Philosophy

My coaching philosophy is simple: it's all about you and what you want to get out of your game. I pride myself on being a good listener first — I want to understand your goals, your frustrations, and what makes your game tick before I ever suggest a change. Every golfer is different, and I've spent nearly three decades learning how to tailor my approach to the individual, whether they're picking up a club for the first time or pushing toward scratch. I take a holistic view of performance. That means looking beyond just swing mechanics — I explore shot patterns, course management, technique, and the mental side of the game too. In my Performance Golf Studio at Dullatur, I use TrackMan launch monitor technology to give players genuine data-backed insight into their game, removing guesswork and replacing it with clarity. My coaching motto — 'We Coach, We Fit, We Care' — sums up everything I believe in. It's not just about lessons; it's about building a genuine partnership with every golfer I work with. I've had the privilege of watching players go from complete beginners to Scotland internationals, and from struggling club golfers to national champions. That journey never gets old. Golf is more enjoyable when you're hitting good shots and playing with confidence — and making that happen for my students is what drives me every day.

About the coach

I'm a PGA Professional with nearly three decades of experience, currently serving as Head Professional at Dullatur Golf Club in Cumbernauld, Scotland. Throughout my career I've coached at clubs across Scotland — including Hollandbush, East Kilbride, and Airdrie — before being appointed Central Scotland National Academy Coach by the Scottish Golf Union in 2005, a role in which I worked with some of the country's most talented young golfers.

The results speak for themselves: since 2005, eight of my pupils have earned full Scotland international honours, and several have won national titles. The proudest moment of my coaching career came in August 2013, when Ewen Ferguson — a player I first spotted at 13 — won the Boys Amateur Championship. Ewen went on to play in the Walker Cup and is now a multiple DP World Tour winner, and I'm honoured to have played a part in his development.

Today, I work out of my Performance Golf Studio at Dullatur Golf Club, where I offer one-to-one lessons, custom club fitting, and tailored coaching packages for golfers of all abilities. The studio is equipped with a TrackMan launch monitor, giving every lesson a layer of precision and data that helps identify exactly where improvement is possible.
