Teaching Philosophy
I coach the way I think: cause and effect. If your ball is doing something — curving the wrong way, coming up short, leaking right under pressure — there's a reason for it, and I'd rather show you that reason than hand you a feel that stops working in two weeks. My approach is deliberately narrow. I'm not going to hand you a laundry list of swing thoughts or a complete rebuild you can't remember on Saturday morning. Instead, I focus on finding the one or two things that are costing you the most shots and fixing those — then leaving the rest alone. Golf improvement doesn't require overhauling everything; it requires honest diagnosis and targeted work. That mindset is part of why I built YardageLock, a physics-based yardage and wind calculator. I think in systems. Feedback matters. If we can make the problem visible — on video, on a launch monitor, or just by tracing ball flight back to its root cause — we can fix it in a way that actually sticks on the course, not just on the range. I'm best suited for golfers who play regularly, genuinely want to improve, and are tired of guessing what to work on. Bring me your most persistent problem and I'll tell you exactly what's causing it.
About the coach
I'm a professional golfer competing on PGA Tour Americas, and golf has been the fabric of my life from day one. My dad, Fred Funk, won eight times on the PGA TOUR — I grew up walking inside the ropes, watching, learning, and eventually caddying for him on PGA TOUR Champions, including the day he won the Insperity Invitational. In 2021 I got to tee it up alongside him at the PGA TOUR's Bermuda Championship. That kind of immersive, lifelong exposure to elite professional golf shapes how I see the game and how I teach it.
I played college golf at the University of Texas, where I was part of a team that entered the 2016 NCAA Championship Match Play as the #1 overall seed — a lineup that included Scottie Scheffler and Doug Ghim. I earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors and turned professional in May 2018. On tour I've posted five top-12 finishes in a single Latin swing on PGA Tour Americas, competing at a high level week in and week out.
Off the course, I'm also a developer — I built YardageLock, a physics-based yardage and wind calculator — because I've always thought in systems and root causes rather than vague feels. That same mindset drives my coaching. I identify the one or two things costing you the most shots, fix those, and leave the rest alone. No noise, no confusion, no swing rebuild you can't repeat under pressure.
I'm based in Austin, TX and work out of Driftwood Golf and Ranch Club. If you play regularly and want a clear, no-fluff path to actually getting better, let's get to work.
