About the coach

Damon Rowan, is the wicket-keeping coach at WA Cricket (WACA) and has been for the past 9 years, where he works with both men's and women's domestic teams, as well as the successful Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL) and Women's Big Bash League (WBBL).

Damon has a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to excellence. Damon a talented cricketer, showcased his skills in Victorian Premier Cricket, notably at the St Kilda Cricket Club in Melbourne, where he impressively played 270 games for the First XI, setting a club record. Throughout his career, Damon also achieved an impressive total of 530 dismissals, which stands as the third highest ever recorded.

Since then, he has played a pivotal role in nurturing outstanding wicket-keepers in men's and women's cricket, helping them reach the top of their game. Over the past nine years, he worked and continues to work with talented players such as Josh Inglis, Josh Philippe, Cameron Bancroft, Sam Whiteman, Beth Mooney, Maddy Darke, and even provided assistance to the Australian Men's Team with Tim Paine.

Damon's coaching philosophy revolves around striving for technical excellence. He focuses on developing a solid foundation in glove work, footwork, and positioning for his players. Paying attention to every detail and emphasising technique, Damon provides a reliable platform for wicket-keepers to excel.

Known for his professional training sessions at the WACA and with the Perth Scorchers, through innovative drills and simulated match scenarios, he challenges his players to constantly improve and raise their performance levels. He fosters a culture of continuous growth and encourages his players to push their boundaries.

Damon goes beyond teaching technical skills and acts as a mentor to his players. He offers continuous support and guidance, instilling a strong work ethic, discipline, and team spirit. Creating a positive environment to helps his players thrive both on and off the field.

Damon also utilises video technology to provide detailed analysis of players' techniques and strategies. By closely examining their movements, he identifies areas for improvement and capitalises on their strengths. This video analysis accelerates the growth and development of wicket-keepers under Damon's guidance.
