About the coach

Thank you so much for stopping by my page! I look forward to the possibility of working with you in any and every way I can. I am dedicated to the passion of making golf fun again and especially trying to make it easy for anyone of all playing levels.

My name is Colton Yates and I am a current aspiring professional golfer from Scottsdale, Arizona. I’ve been playing golf for almost 20 years and look forward to imparting some if not all of the information I’ve gathered over that time to make you a better golfer! I have always enjoyed helping people when I can, and I’ve decided now to do this with my full-time playing schedule.

I played collegiate golf at Colorado State University between the years of 2014 and 2018. I then promptly moved back home to Arizona after graduating to start my professional career. Shortly thereafter, at the end of the year in 2019, I acquired Korn Ferry Tour status through Q School at the end of the year. I was one of eight players to advance from the Prequalifying Stage up until the Finals of the entirety of the competition. From 2019 until 2021 I retained my Korn Ferry Tour status, but unfortunately did not get any starts. Since then, I have been unsuccessful at Q school due to injuries, but I look forward to having a successful season this year. Over this course of time as being professional, I have had extraordinary experiences and played with some incredible golfers. I have played with rising stars, such as Akshay Bhatia and Saheeth Theegala. I have even played with current and former PGA tour professionals Kevin Streelman, Kevin Chappell, and Colt Knost. I have seen what it takes day in and day out for some of the best in the world to get it done during their practice from Tony Finau and Max Homa to John Rahm and Wyndham Clark. Throughout this whole time, I have learned that while the fundamentals of golf may be similar for everyone, everyone is unique and everyone needs their style. In my programs, I will always custom-tailor them to what you need and not reprint something that has already been used on someone else. I think this is extremely important and something I stand heavily behind.

My swing coach has been Andrew Getson for almost 15 years (current swing coach to Phil Mickelson) who studied under Butch Harmon for numerous years and passed all of his knowledge to me about the swing, short game, putting, and even a strong mental approach to the game that I am happy and excited to share with anyone. All of my programs are not specific to just the swing. I can offer help and coaching throughout the bag in any way you need and want!

That’s my bio, now let’s get to work...

- Swing Video Analysis:
Think of this like we have never met before and you are on the range about to go play a round and need some pointers to maybe have a better round today and going forward. The swing video analysis is designed to offer big ideas and feelings, as well as a brief understanding of your swing tendencies to help you succeed in your next round and future rounds. It is also an opening to show you how I might go about helping you in your swing and a taste of my teaching approach. This is a great way to get started and an easy way to maybe fix some things without getting too detail-oriented.

- Online Lessons:
In this program, we will dive deep into your swing and golf game and determine the best approach for you to get better. This will involve a full analysis of whatever you need to be. It will also involve drills and anything else that you may be able to do regularly on a day-to-day basis to help us achieve our goals. This program is designed to be more of a long-term goal-setting system and not anything quickly fixed. This is the idea of getting better down the road and how we get there.

- In Person Lessons:
Sometimes an online lesson just isn’t quite the right fit so for my Arizona golfers, I offer in-person lessons as well. On the rare occasion that I am traveling and in your town, I will also offer these in-person lessons in this manner. These have the same goals as the online lessons simply with the difference of being in person and having more of on hands approach, where I can physically guide you in the manner you need.

- Birdie Talk:
This section I am extremely excited about. In these shorter sessions, I can offer advice from a mental standpoint. Golf isn’t only physical and it requires a lot of different moving parts working together. Over the years at lessons of my very own, I have found that the most beneficial way forward is to talk things through and work them out in that way rather than tackling anything physical. This can be a multitude of things, from course management to pre-shot routine and how to pick targets and think positively. This can be accomplished through videos and answering any questions

All of these programs as mentioned will be tailored to you and what I feel you need! They will all mostly include videos and real-life examples of what I see and what I believe needs to be adjusted.

Thanks again for stopping by and I hope you trust me with your golf struggles! Trust me when I say it is easier than we all make it to be and I hope that I can be that person to help you make it easy again. I cater to all levels of golfers and look forward to meeting you and making you the best golfer you can be!
