About the coach

Hi there! I’m Sukh, known as @TheGolfSingh

I work with students who are passionate and committed to increasing their performance in golf. They are open minded, coachable, ask questions and want to understand their movement and golf swing. These are the people you will see working on their golf swing everywhere! Places such as store lineups, the gym, at work, at home, anywhere they come across a mirror or have an ‘aha’ moment while thinking about their game! Golf addicts!

This person has been me ever since I started golfing and is still me to this day! I believe slow motion practice is one of the best ways to improve one’s game and something a lot of golfers don’t do. Additionally, very few golfers spend time working on developing their skills. Technique is important, however possessing the ability to make the ball go left and right, hit high and low shots, understanding how to use different clubs for different lies and scenarios really gives a golfer the confidence to have some control of their ball flight. Learning course strategy, pre shot routine, and mental/emotional regulation are major keys to performing well.

My Philosophy

- I prefer my golfers to have an understanding of their body and any restrictions they may have. There are many ways to make the swing work, so it’s important that we work with what we have versus go against the grain. Setup, grip matchups, and certain movements patterns can be designed to match your body and abilities or make up for certain restrictions. Some restrictions can also be worked upon with mobility and stability workouts.

- A baseline understanding of certain movements or non movements that affect the golf club and how that affects the golf swing .
- Basics of ball flight laws (club face, club path, shot shaping)
- Key factors behind great ball striking and what causes poor contact
- How to swing freely with momentum and gain speed versus leak power fighting opposing forces in your swing

Golfers shouldn’t have their minds clouded with numerous swing thoughts, confusion and uncertainty when they are over the ball and constantly be heard saying "im thinking too much". However, golfers also shouldn’t just be seeking quick fixes as this leaves them at the mercy of others when something goes ‘wrong’. Not everyday will you wake up and your swing be perfect. However if you understand fundamentals of ball flight, contact and how to navigate a course despite the shot shape of that day, you can still play well.

The Learning Process

Golf is a game you will play for the majority of your life. Investing in knowledge and working on longer term solutions will benefit you the most. Some times there are simple and quick solutions to issues sometimes they take a little longer. Patience and the desire to practice will get you the furthest with either scenario. Many great ball strikers will say it’s the time they’ve spent hitting balls and practicing. The best of the best on tour don’t have many thoughts, they just hit the ball. This is the best state of mind to play golf in.

Golf lessons are there to guide you in the right direction, you must put the work in regardless. Working on the right things for YOUR game will shave off years of time and sweat, however you must practice to engrain new patterns and mindsets. Many golfers tend to believe they only have to go to the range to see results but this is not true. Rather, spending more time understanding the movement in slow motion at home then taking it to the range building it up gradually is what will get you to your goals.

With the use of this app I can work with you and teach you how to change movement patterns in slo motion and at home/indoors. I will give you drills and stations that you can create at the range so you know exactly what to work on and how to practice. We will also discuss how to practice so that the results can also translate to the golf course where it matters.

I wholeheartedly agree with skillest that golfers need more support and feedback in between lessons. Players need to know they are on the right track and dialing in the correct movements for them. Even during my in-person lessons I love when students send me videos of their practice session and want to have questions answered or assure they are working on the right things. This excites me I see how committed someone is and is making gains!

My Journey

I hit the driving range periodically as a kid. At age 15 I played my first round of golf. Age 16 I was a 30 handicap and joined a junior performance golf academy. With weekly group lessons and workouts with a top TPI coach (Jason Glass) plus more private lessons and tons of practice I lowered my handicap to a 2 in a year and a half.

After sustaining back pain from moving inefficiently during my swing I had to take a break. After 2 years I met a man who is now a great friend a fellow coach. He led me to some articles of a man named Kelvin Miyahira. Kelvin studied the biomechanics of the greatest golfers to ever play the game and also similar movement patterns from other sports. Long story short, I applied some of these movements and my back pain stopped. I then travelled with my friend to California a 3 month trip where we met coaches like George Gankas and others. When I returned home with all this knowledge about the golf swing, I decided to start coaching. I loved the idea to be able to help others improve and enjoy this beautiful game even more.

Today, after several years I help golfers of all ages and skill levels pursue their goals. It fulfills me to help them enjoy the game to the level they dream of. I have continued my education learning from great coaches such as Scott Cowx, Terry Rowles, Mike Adams travelling to learn from them and attend their certifications. I also follow many coaches online and love to pick their brain and always be learning.

What sets me apart

- my level of care for my students
- making sure I go above and beyond if needed to help my students achieve their goals
- patience and communication to hear out students and work with them instead of just instruct them (why I love the feedback part of this app)
- to be able to connect with others via golf and develop a potential long term relationship where I can add value to their lives in other ways outside of golf. To help them grow and be better off than how I came across them. Personal growth and mindset are key pillars to my life and successes. An opportunity to learn from others also brings excitement!

Ive been working with Sukh for 3 years. We have done a lot of in person work but have been working online with him since he moved away. Our lessons havent missed a beat from going from in person to online. Hes a great teacher and has a lot of patience.
