Two very important points kevin pointed out. 1)a core reason I was having trouble shallowing was my lack of rotation and depth. i was lifting my arms rather than rotation. 2) an easier way to get in the right position at the top of the back swing was to rotate the body then just fold my trail arm. i was very surprised that worked.
