Thank you for checking out my Skillest page.
I don’t believe in hitting positions in the swing. The club should pass through certain areas in space as an athletic movement takes place. However there is a range to those spaces. Most patterns can produce good golf. Some may make it harder than others, or provide different constraints, but in order to play well a player has to be reacting on the course, NOT chasing positions. I know this all too well from personal experience.
As a coach my preference is to layer on complimenting movements, or make a minor adjustment to a players already established swing DNA. Sometimes you have to strip a movement, but I find it much easier to compliment a pattern first if possible. This is especially true for amateur golfers who may not have the time to dedicate hours to practice, or for an overhaul. As more and more science becomes available people are realizing that swing biases are just that…a bias, but not necessities. I do my best to stay away from a bias.
Priority for golfers in my opinion should be:
1) Strike quality (a good strike can take care of so much)
2) Low point control (you have to hit the ground where you want to hit the ground and with the depth you want)
3) Layer on complimenting changes to the individuals current pattern if possible
4) Enjoy the walk (Golf is about more than a score)
I’ve got experience working both advanced and beginner golfers.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Josh
